As we journey through these passages we start off looking at the Temple on earth that had shadows and patterns of the Heavenly. We are taken to the Holiest place of all behind a veil. (Remember when Jesus died the veil was torn from top to bottom.) At this place we are not allowed to go further. It really doesn't matter because the focus shifts to what Jesus did in the Heavenly. When we get to the middle of chapter 10 we now enter boldly unto the throne of grace in the Holiest of Heaven.
Closely following that thought we are told to provoke one another to love, not to intentionally skip church, and to follow after these things we were taught.
Christ's sacrifice made a difference. It satisfied the Father, brought peace for us, and changes everything that was previously known about sacrifice.

HEBREWS 7-8
Interesting words are used to describe the old priesthood and the old law:
Chapter 7 Need change vs. 12, carnal vs. 16, weak, unprofitable vs. 18, made nothing perfect vs. 19
Chapter 8 Shadow and pattern vs. 5, full of fault vs. 7-8, old, decays, grows old, vanishes away vs. 13
The New Priesthood, covenant, and law are described this way:
Chapter 7 Power of an endless life vs. 16, better hope vs. 19, better testament vs. 22, unchangeable vs. 24,
Chapter 8 More excellent, better promises vs. 6, provides mercy and forgiveness vs. 12
I am so thankful for Jesus Christ the priest after the order of Mechisadec who made a new and better way for us. I am so glad to be under the new priesthood, covenant and law.

HEBREWS
Hebrews 5-6
Two thoughts from these passages:
1. We need to be skillful in the Word.
2. God's promises and person are immutable (they don't change).
God makes promises in His own name.
We can cling to the promises He makes because there is no greater.

HEBREWS
Hebrews Chapters 3-4
Those who fell in the wilderness could not enter into rest because of their unbelief. We cannot enter into the rest of Christ (Matthew 11:29-30) if we are in unbelief.
The Word did not profit them because of unbelief.
These chapters seem to have an equal sign attached faith=rest. rest=position in Christ. I think that it is interesting that some people try so hard to make Sabbath rest (a work we do) as gaining favor with God, but this passage places that rest solely on faith.
I love how chapter 4 ends. We have a High Priest who understands us. He encourages us to enter boldly before His throne of grace. What an awesome God we serve.

HEBREWS
Monday May 3, 2010
While reading chapters one and two in Hebrews today concentrate on the thought: "Jesus is better than the Angels"
Interesting points:
God used to speak through the prophets, now He speaks through His Son.
Verse 3 sums up the book, He is the express image of God's Person. He offered His sacrifice and sat down.
Hebrews 1:10 = Psalm 102:25
Hebrews 1:11-12 = Isaiah 34:4, 51:6, Psalm 110:1
Hebrews 2:6-8 = Psalm 8:4-6
Hebrews 2:9 He tasted death for every man, verse 10 so that He could be the captain of our salvation.
Hebrews 2:18 - Because He was tempted, He is able to help (and deliver) those of us who are tempted. c.f. Hebrews 4:15-16; 5:2; 7:25
